The Original Blonde Bombshell!

Jean Harlow
The Original Blonde Bombshell

This sexy starlett truly was a Platinum Blonde! Howard Hughes actually coined the term for her in 1930's. He rejected many ideas like "Blonde Sunshine", "Blonde Landslide" and "Blonde Fury". It was Platinum Blonde that stuck. In order to market his new found talent, he got Director Frank Capra to change his upcoming film from Gallagher to Platinum Blonde! In order to publicize the film a prize of $10,000 was offered to any hairdresser who could duplicate Harlow's Platinum locks.

History shows that there was no winner, but peroxide sales shot through the roof as every stylist tried to get her star studded look. Harlow had stated that she was using a bit of "bluing liquid" in her shampoo. Methods like this are used today. Our favorite product is Rusk Bright Shampoo. This shampoo literally has purple tint to it, this purple helps to remove the yellows and golds from the hair, leaving a pale attractive blonde behind.

Years later, Harlow's hairdresser released that she had been using a mixture of peroxide, ammonia and Clorox. This made her hair so brittle that she was forced to use olive oil in her hair daily to keep her from losing anymore hair due to breakage. From then on Jean used custom wigs to achieve the look.

We now use what is known as a high lifting color. This blonde series is made for those of us who happen to be blessed with natural blonde locks, who want to show off their platinum side!

Come in today and consult with one of our stylists!
