Kimberly Kimble, celebrity stylist and owner of Kimble Hair Studio in West Hollywood, California, talks about top styles for new moms and offers tips for choosing the style that's best for you.
Long vs short
A mom with long hair may be tempted to cut it off once her baby is born, but she should think through such drastic decisions. "Short hair definitely takes less time to style," says Kimble, "but what’s most important is that moms get a great cut, no matter what the length. First and foremost, you want to get a cut that looks good on you and works for your face shape. Then, if you’re a busy mom, you want something that is low maintenance, like a cut that’s one length or long layers that are easy to grow out and don’t require constant upkeep. Some wash and wear cuts, like a chic bob or pixie, look good on a wide variety of face shapes, but there isn’t just one style that’s the end-all answer. Work with your stylist to find something that works for you."
Glam at home
Moms who decide not to go short can add a little glamour to their days without heading to a salon. "You can wear the hair half up instead of entirely pulled back," suggests Kimble. "If you’re looking for more volume, tease the top section a little at the crown before pulling back. Just because a hairstyle is cute doesn’t mean it has to take hours to create or involve a blow dryer, curling iron and flat iron. A little bit of product can go a long way in helping to create a fabulous look."

Straight
"A sleek, straight look is something that's always in style and can be very easily achieved by running a flat iron over the hair," says Kimble.
Natural
"If you have naturally curly or wavy hair, apply a little styling mousse and wear it natural," Kimble suggests. "It looks great and takes practically no time to create."
A side braid
"One of fashion's hottest looks right now," Kimble explains, "is a stylish way to wear your hair back and a great ponytail alternative."
Bun
"A messy bun looks effortlessly chic and is very easy to create. It's really only one step more than a ponytail."
A chignon
"A chignon is another classic look that is practical yet pretty."
Wear a headband
"There are so many cute headbands available right now. If all else fails, just put one on and go."
